Challenge Entry: Anywhere Else [Jul. 28th, 2006|12:57 pm]
I'm feeling a little 'meh' about this, because it doesn't say what I wanted to say, but it does say something so I'm going with it.

Anywhere Else

Separated from the heat outside
by steel and glass,
it would be easy to believe
I was anywhere,
anywhere else,
were it not for the golden-green
blur of palms in the sun
reminding me where I am.

Blue sky blends with black tar,
white clouds with white lines.
Everything is one
and I could be anywhere,
anywhere else.
It is only the golden-green –
those fronds like reaching fingers –
holding me where I am,

Or I would follow those white lines
over that black tar
until I reached that blue sky
to be anywhere,
anywhere else.

I wish I were anywhere else but here. Then I could relax my neck muscles enough to get my raging headache to subside. And I culd see blue sky and palm trees!

But I like this.. it is much more upbeat and happier than my 2.

Very cool, Kate!

I don't think I've read yours yet. I will have to go check them out. But it's funny that you interpreted this as upbeat. That wasn't the way it came out to me. (Of course, that's the interesting thing about poetry!)

Is it just me or does this poem flow like a song? Get a guitar, a nice rythm, and you have a smashing number one hit.

I like it. :)

*giggle* I guess it kind of does.

See, I caught almost sadness and longing. A need to escape. It reminds me of what you said about some of my Gibsons pictures, about how there was almost an identity to the landscape with the mountains and water. So many things could be 'anywhere' but there's one or two things that can only be 'here' or 'there.'

And then just thinking of the sky and a longing to go there, to be not of this planet anymore. *dreams*

*is smug*

Of course, I am not surprised that you totally get it.
